Editorial Regulations of the Korean Journal for the History of Science

Article 1 (Purpose) The purpose of these Regulations is to establish the procedures governing the editing of, and the review of manuscripts submitted to, the Korean Journal for the History of Science (hereinafter "the Journal"), the official journal of the Korean History of Science Society.

Article 2 (Publication) The Journal shall be published three times annually, on April 30, August 31, and December 31.

Article 3 (Composition and Operation of the Editorial Board) An Editorial Board shall be established to conduct the editing of the Journal and the review of manuscripts.

1. The Editorial Board shall consist of no more than twenty members, including the Editor-in-Chief.
2. The Editor-in-Chief shall be appointed by the President of the Society in consultation with the Vice-Presidents and executive directors.
3. The Associate Editors and the members of the Editorial Board shall be appointed by the President of the Society upon the recommendation of the Editor-in-Chief.
4. The Editor-in-Chief, the Associate Editors, and the members of the Editorial Board shall each serve a term of two years and may be reappointed.
5. Meetings of the Editorial Board shall be convened with a majority of its members present in person or represented by proxy, and resolutions shall be adopted by a majority vote of the members present or represented.
6. The Editor-in-Chief shall preside over editorial meetings and shall have general charge of all matters relating to the editing and publication of the Journal.
7. The Editorial Secretary shall be responsible for the administrative work attendant upon the editing and publication of the Journal.

Article 4 (Functions of the Editorial Board) The Editorial Board shall deliberate and decide upon the following matters:

1. All general matters relating to the publication of the Journal;
2. The planning and first-stage review of research articles, review articles, research notes, discussions, source materials, book reviews, reports, and notices submitted for publication in the Journal;
3. The selection of referees for manuscripts subject to second-stage review;
4. The planning of special issues, forums, discussions, and the like;
5. Such other business as may be necessary.

Article 5 (Categories of Publication) The categories of manuscript eligible for publication in the Journal shall include research articles, review articles, research notes, source materials, book reviews, reports, and notices.

Article 6 (Manuscripts for Review)

1. An author wishing to publish an article shall submit the complete text of the manuscript no later than two months prior to the intended publication date of the Journal.
2. Submitted manuscripts must not have been previously published in any other academic journal or book, whether in Korea or abroad.
3. In principle, the length of an article shall not exceed 30,000 Korean characters (150 manuscript sheets of 200 characters each).

Article 7 (Principles and Procedures of Manuscript Review)

1. Submitted manuscripts shall enter the review process in the order in which they are received.
2. All submitted manuscripts shall undergo a first-stage review assessing their suitability with respect to subject area, format, and length.
3. Articles shall additionally undergo a second-stage review, in which no fewer than three referees assess their scholarly quality.
4. Referees shall evaluate each manuscript comprehensively with respect to the soundness of its structure, the originality of its content and argument, its use of sources, and the appropriateness of its format and presentation, and shall on this basis submit one of the following recommendations: Accept (A); Accept with Revisions (B); Revise and Resubmit (C); or Reject (D).
5. To protect the author's intellectual property rights and fulfill confidentiality obligations, reviewers must not input any part of the manuscript under review into artificial intelligence (AI) tools, translation programs, or similar services, nor may they automatically generate review reports using AI tools.
6. The Editor-in-Chief shall convene the Editorial Board and, upon consideration of the referees' reports, render a final decision as follows:

   (a) Where all referees have recommended Accept (A): acceptance without revision;

   (b) Where one or more referees have recommended Accept with Revisions (B) and the remainder Accept (A): acceptance with revisions;

   (c) Where two or more referees have recommended Revise and Resubmit (C) and the remainder Accept (A) or Accept with Revisions (B): revision and resubmission;

   (d) Where one or more referees have recommended Reject (D) and the remainder Accept (A), Accept with Revisions (B), or Revise and Resubmit (C): the decision between Reject (D) and Revise and Resubmit shall rest with the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief;

   (e) Where a single referee has recommended Revise and Resubmit (C) and the remainder Accept (A) or Accept with Revisions (B): the decision between Accept with Revisions (B) and Revise and Resubmit (C) shall rest with the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief.

Article 8 (Selection of Referees) Articles shall undergo second-stage review by referees appointed for that purpose.

1. The referees shall be no fewer than three specialists in the relevant field.
2. The selection of referees and the review process shall not be disclosed.

Article 9 (Notification of Review Results)

1. The particulars of the review process shall be treated as confidential.
2. The Editor-in-Chief shall notify the submitting author of the review results.
3. The Editor-in-Chief shall inform the author of the final decision and may require the revision and supplementation of the manuscript in accordance with the points raised in review as a condition of publication.
4. The author shall submit the final version of the manuscript to the Editor-in-Chief within the designated period.
5. Where the author fails to submit a revised manuscript within twelve months of the Editor-in-Chief's request for revision and supplementation, the Editor-in-Chief may, at their discretion, either render a decision of Reject (D) on the manuscript or treat the submission as withdrawn.

Article 10 (Miscellaneous Provisions)

1. The copyright in articles published in the Journal shall vest in the Korean History of Science Society.
2. For each published research article, review article, research note, or source material, two copies of the issue in which it appears shall be presented to the author.
3. Matters not provided for in these Regulations shall be handled in accordance with the established practice of the Korean History of Science Society.

Article 11 (Supplementary Provisions)

1. These Regulations shall take effect on October 25, 2020.
2. These Regulations may be amended upon deliberation by the Editorial Board and with the ratification of the Board of Directors of the Society.
